Manchester United are closely monitoring Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha as a possible summer recruit, according to German insider Florian Plettenberg.

At 24, the former Manchester City academy standout has become a midfield lifeline at Borussia Dortmund since his move from Wolfsburg in July 2023.

Plettenberg stresses that no formal talks have been held with Dortmund or Nmecha’s camp—yet.

United’s current roster boasts names like Casemiro, Eriksen, Ugarte, Mainoo and Collyer. United simply have too many midfielders for now.

Still, a deal might be forced by circumstance.

Nmecha is under contract until 2028. Dortmund are said to want at least €50 million (£43–48m)—a price United could be ready to match if squad exits free up space.

United’s season has been dire: sitting 13th in the Premier League, a finish below 8th would mark their worst-ever top‑flight campaign.

A summer overhaul is inevitable. With Eriksen due to leave and Casemiro’s future in doubt as reported by FootballTalk, a midfield reset is on the cards.

Why Nmecha?

He’s technically polished, relentless, and fits Ruben Amorim’s vision perfectly. A box-to-box option who can anchor or advance—he ticks every tactical box. A true connector.

It’s not a guaranteed move.

Dortmund are reportedly resistant to selling such a key figure—unless European qualification collapses. United may test that resolve this summer.

This is more than recruitment. It’s a signal.

A statement of urgency. A nod to rebirth.
