Liverpool are reportedly confident of winning the race for RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons, beating out competition from Manchester City, according to Caught Offside.
The Reds are enjoying a stellar campaign, sitting 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League with just seven games to go. While Mohamed Salah has committed his future beyond this season, manager Arne Slot is still expected to seek attacking reinforcements to keep Liverpool competing for major honours next year.
Sources claim Liverpool “feel confident” about landing Simons, with the club’s strong Dutch influence seen as a key advantage. Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch already feature in the squad, alongside Dutchman Slot in the dugout.
The 21-year-old playmaker could be available for around £61 million this summer. Leipzig signed him from Paris Saint-Germain for £42 million in January after an 18-month loan, and despite injury setbacks, he has contributed 14 goals and assists in 28 appearances.
Able to play on either wing or as a No.10, Simons would add versatility and competition to Liverpool’s attack. With Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota struggling for goals in 2025 and uncertainty over their futures, the Dutchman could be a valuable upgrade.
Former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has described Simons as “great,” and the familiarity of linking up with national teammates could tempt him towards Anfield.
While Manchester City remain in the hunt, they have only one Dutch player — Nathan Ake — which could give Liverpool the edge in securing one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
