Liverpool are preparing for a summer midfield overhaul, with Arne Slot keen to strengthen squad depth despite no expected departures in the department.
While Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch have formed the core of the midfield this season, inconsistent performances — particularly from Szoboszlai — have highlighted the need for more competition.
According to Football Insider, the Reds have joined the race to sign Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze. The 26-year-old will be in high demand this summer, with a £68 million release clause set to become active, and Arsenal are also reportedly interested, according to Skysports.
Eze has been in fine form for Palace, registering seven goals and 11 assists in all competitions. After several impressive seasons at Selhurst Park, the England international is said to be open to a move to a bigger club. While not Liverpool’s first-choice target just yet, he remains firmly on their shortlist.
Eze’s creativity, dribbling ability, and vision make him a natural fit for Slot’s system. He is adept at dropping deep to progress the ball, pressing aggressively, and unleashing long-range efforts. His versatility — operating as both a number 10 and a left winger — could be especially valuable if Luis Díaz departs this summer.
With Arsenal also in the hunt, Liverpool may need to act quickly if they decide to prioritise Eze.
Negotiating below his release clause could be challenging, but the battle for his signature is expected to be one of the most intriguing storylines of the upcoming transfer window.
