United dream of Baleba engine

Manchester United have an itch in midfield and a short window to scratch it.

Rúben Amorim’s football needs a left-footed carrier who thinks fast, breaks pressure, and returns the ball with purpose.

Enter Carlos Baleba, 21, Brighton’s replacement for Moisés Caicedo, now the dream target.

Fabrizio Romano says United have sounded out the player’s camp; Baleba is open. Brighton, tied to a contract through 2028, will only blink for a “crazy” proposal. That is the pace of this market: hurry, or let the chance pass.

The mirror doesn’t lie. Casemiro’s legs are lighter, Mainoo’s stride is smart more than swift, and Manuel Ugarte bites without building.

Amorim wants a dynamic six-eight who can receive under fire, carry thirty yards, and switch play off either foot.

Baleba’s profile reads like a checklist: press-resistant, progressive, alert to danger. He would not erase problems alone, but he would give United an identity between the lines.

There is budget gravity. United are reshaping the front: Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo arrive for the two advanced roles, while Benjamin Šeško edges closer at nine after Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee stalled.

Every pound must serve the plan.

Brighton’s stance is firm, as ever. They buy early, sell late, and only at their number. But some players fit a project so neatly that price becomes a statement.

If United truly believe Baleba unlocks Amorim’s press and purpose, they should move before the clock steals the option.

Belonging first, brilliance next; that is how rebuilds win seasons.
