Amorim’s trial by fixtures

Rúben Amorim walks into August with the clock already loud. No Europe. No excuses. A gauntlet from day one.

Arsenal at Old Trafford on August 17. Super Sunday. Hurry—momentum is scarce here. Then a breath: Fulham away, Burnley at home.

Blink and it’s the derby at the Etihad, followed by Chelsea under the lights. Anfield waits on October 18. Liverpool return to Manchester on May 2. Brighton away on May 24 closes it all. Limited margins. Limited patience.

The backdrop is brutal. Since November, Amorim’s United have been streaky—17 wins, 17 losses in 42. In the league: seven wins from 27, 14 defeats. The numbers mirror the mood.

The club hasn’t missed Europe since 2014–15; now it must learn the quiet of midweeks and make that silence useful.

So what survives? Urgency. Identity. Purpose. Trim the noise, sharpen the press, play forward. Arsenal will test the nerve. The derby will test the shape. Chelsea will test the build-up. Liverpool will test the soul. Pass enough of these and the season breathes.

Supporters know the ache. They remember darker tables, even whispers of 1930–31. They also remember rescues. One run, and Old Trafford tilts.

Amorim says good times are coming. Fine. Make them come faster. Control the tempo off the ball, commit to patterns on it, trust the kids when legs tire.

The schedule is a mirror and a judge. Survive August, split September, take belief to Anfield.

Do that, and United swap dread for direction. Again.
