Arsenal remain determined to sign Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams, according to The Daily Mail.

Despite having depth in attack with Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli on the left, Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling on the right, and Gabriel Jesus plus Kai Havertz through the middle, the Gunners have struggled for consistent output this season.

Only Saka has delivered on a regular basis, while others have lacked cutting edge in front of goal.

Saka’s recent hamstring injury — which will keep him sidelined for several weeks — has further exposed Arsenal’s need for reinforcements.

With funds available for January, Mikel Arteta has reportedly turned his attention back to Williams, having tried to sign him last summer before the transfer deadline passed.

The 22-year-old Spain international has a £50m release clause, a fee Arsenal can afford. However, Williams is reluctant to leave his boyhood club midway through the season, meaning the Gunners will need to make a compelling case to secure his signature.

Barcelona are also interested in the winger, but their ongoing financial troubles could prevent them from completing a deal this month.

Williams has emerged as one of La Liga’s brightest young talents since breaking through Bilbao’s academy. He enjoyed a standout campaign last season, earned a place in Spain’s Euro 2024 squad, and scored in the final against England to help his nation lift the trophy.

Should Arsenal manage to land him, Williams would add pace, flair, and a clinical edge to their front line — qualities that could prove decisive in the Premier League title race.
