Brendan Rodgers has put to rest any speculation about his future, confirming that he will remain at Celtic until the end of his current three-year contract, which expires at the close of the season.
Speaking ahead of Celtic’s clash with Livingston, the manager made it clear that leaving early is not an option, even in light of frustrations over the transfer market. While he admitted that discussions about his long-term future had taken place earlier in the summer, Rodgers explained that those talks are now on hold as he shifts full focus to the season ahead.
Back in July, before the Flag Day opener against St Mirren, Rodgers had suggested that his continued stay at the club beyond this season would depend on Celtic’s ambition in the transfer market. He stressed at the time that proper investment in the squad was essential if Celtic were to push forward, particularly in the Champions League.
When asked directly this week whether he might consider leaving because of shortcomings in recruitment, Rodgers laughed off the suggestion.
He even joked about having attempted such an approach previously, which he admitted “didn’t go down too well.” This time, however, the Northern Irishman was firm: he will see out his contract and work with the players already at his disposal.
Celtic are still expected to strengthen before the window closes. Reports suggest at least four new signings are in the pipeline, and that number could rise to five depending on how the club handles the absence of Alistair Johnston, who is sidelined for three months.
If the recruitment drive proves convincing, Rodgers may yet reopen talks with the board about extending his stay. A fresh contract would hinge not just on financial backing, but also on the club’s long-term vision for success at both domestic and European levels.
For now, though, Rodgers has made one thing clear: he has no intention of walking away before the season ends.
