Chelsea have stepped into the contest to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, with talks over his future in France still unresolved.

The 26-year-old has just delivered one of the finest goalkeeping seasons in Europe, anchoring PSG’s march to a clean sweep of domestic and continental trophies with decisive, reflex-laden stops. Yet his contract continues to tick down, and no agreement on an extension is in sight.

PSG’s recent capture of Lucas Chevalier from Lille has only intensified speculation of a potential exit.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Chelsea have declared their interest, positioning themselves among the leading contenders. The French champions will soon meet with Donnarumma to decide his next move and are open to listening to offers from abroad.

Chelsea’s pursuit faces competition from Turkish titleholders Galatasaray, while PSG are expected to consider bids near his £32m valuation. The major hurdle remains his £212k-per-week salary, which may require compromise from the player.

The Blues’ interest in a new first-choice goalkeeper is longstanding. Robert Sánchez has yet to fully convince, despite ending last season strongly and starring in the Club World Cup final against PSG.

Chelsea previously explored a deal for Mike Maignan but walked away due to AC Milan’s high demands.

Donnarumma would represent a significant upgrade—an established, world-class presence to underpin their rebuild. Whether the wage gap can be bridged will determine if this pursuit gains momentum.

For Chelsea, the opportunity to install such a commanding figure between the posts is rare, and passing it up could mean watching a generational talent settle elsewhere.
