Chelsea’s pursuit of emerging talent has taken a bold turn, with reports revealing that the Blues have made a formal approach to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 20-year-old Argentine international is on Chelsea’s radar after struggling for consistent game time under Ruben Amorim’s system at Old Trafford.

Garnacho has found opportunities limited in the 3-4-3 setup, and his reduced minutes have sparked speculation over a possible January exit.

Manchester United are unwilling to part with their highly-rated youngster cheaply, however. Romano suggests the Red Devils have placed a £59 million price tag on Garnacho.

Napoli are also interested, but Antonio Conte’s side could be priced out of the race. Meanwhile, TyC Sport (via 90min) claims that Stamford Bridge is Garnacho’s preferred destination.

The move raises eyebrows given Chelsea’s heavy investment in wingers in recent transfer windows. The club has already added João Félix and Pedro Neto while also being obligated to purchase Jadon Sancho from United.

Noni Madueke has also featured regularly under Enzo Maresca, highlighting the depth already available out wide.

Despite their surplus of wingers, Chelsea appear determined to test United’s resolve.

Whether a deal materialises remains to be seen, but questions linger over whether £59 million would be better spent strengthening their defence, midfield, or signing a long-term striker.
