Manchester United’s interest in 17‑year‑old Geovany Quenda is intensifying.

According to Ben Jacobs on GivemeSport, the Sporting CP wonderkid is very keen on a move to Old Trafford this summer, and talks are progressing to see whether a pre‑agreement can be struck.

United value Quenda at around €40 million (£33m), but Sporting remain firm, asking closer to €60 million (£50m) as reported on EPL Index.

That gap, Ben Jacobs explains, will define whether this dream comes together.

He’s not just any teenager.

Born in Guinea‑Bissau on 30 April 2007, Quenda moved to Portugal early and rose through Benfica and Sporting’s academies.

Now he’s a first‑team regular—two goals, seven assists from 34 appearances, equally effective as a right wing‑back or winger.

Under Ruben Amorim, the manager who gave him his breakthrough, he played every game in a 3‑4‑3 system, excelling both offensively and defensively.

Negotiations are being steered by Jorge Mendes, and both clubs must bridge a wide gulf.

There’s urgency here. United need options on the right flank: Antony is away on loan—maybe permanently—and Alejandro Garnacho remains untested.

A reunion with Quenda, already familiar with Amorim’s methods, offers instant integration.

But a dramatic plot twist emerged: According to a Reuters report, Chelsea have reportedly hijacked the deal.

In March, Sporting and Chelsea agreed terms for Quenda to join Stamford Bridge in summer 2026 for around €45–50m, a future transfer that derails United’s plans.

So now, United face a decision: push harder or move on.

Everything now hinges on who convinces Sporting—and fast.
