Big news is hitting Anfield! Liverpool has reportedly agreed on a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s phenomenal midfielder Florian Wirtz this summer.
The 22-year-old sensation has been the Reds’ top target in midfield after a stunning season in Germany, where he notched up 16 goals and 15 assists for Die Werkself.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement in principle to sign Wirtz permanently, with the player himself agreeing to a deal worth €150m add-ons included.
This would make him Liverpool’s and the Premier League’s most expensive player, surpassing the £100m+ deals for Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice last summer.
Wirtz is expected to travel to Anfield soon for his medical and to sign the papers. This signing is a statement of intent from Liverpool, who have already secured Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen and are advancing talks for Bournemouth’s left-back Milos Kerkez.
Wirtz is a creative force, known for his intelligent positioning and lightning-quick decision-making. He averages 32.4 passes in the attacking third per 90 minutes, making him one of the most productive players in Europe’s top leagues.
In Liverpool’s 4-2-3-1 setup, Wirtz would likely play as the attacking midfielder, operating in tight spaces behind the striker.
With Arne Slot having a wealth of midfield options, it’ll be intriguing to see who makes way for Wirtz in the starting lineup. One thing’s for sure – Wirtz’s arrival will bring excitement to Anfield, and fans can’t wait to see him in action!
