Liverpool’s rebuild gathers pace.

Ben Jacob on his X page reports that Milos Kerkez is expected to walk through the doors at Anfield next week, the £40m deal all but complete. For a side reshaping itself under Arne Slot, the Hungarian left-back is more than just another signing—he’s the heir to Andrew Robertson’s flank.

Robertson’s reign has been glorious. Since arriving in 2017, he’s lifted the Premier League, Champions League, and more. But at 31, the signs of wear have begun to show. His contract runs out next summer, and with Atletico Madrid circling, Liverpool seem ready to cash in before sentiment clouds judgement.

Kerkez arrives with promise. Two seasons ago, he left AZ Alkmaar for Bournemouth and adapted quickly. Last term, his 38 league appearances brought two goals, five assists, and nine clean sheets—numbers that speak to his balance between attack and defence. Energetic, forward-thinking, yet disciplined at the back, he mirrors much of what made Robertson irreplaceable.

This signing is part of a broader overhaul. Trent Alexander-Arnold is gone, replaced by Jeremie Frimpong. Florian Wirtz is close to joining in a blockbuster move for the No.10 role. And the search for a new striker continues, with Hugo Ekitike and Victor Osimhen on the radar to replace Darwin Núñez.

Kerkez, though, is the next chapter in a position Liverpool have mastered for years. For the first time in nearly a decade, Robertson may watch someone else wear his shirt, a passing of the torch that could define the Slot era.

Next week, the future arrives.
