Liverpool eye move for Monchengladbach goalkeeper Tiago Pereira Cardoso

Liverpool are reportedly preparing a move for Borussia Monchengladbach’s highly-rated goalkeeper Tiago Pereira Cardoso, according to German outlet Sport Bild.

With first-choice shot-stopper Alisson Becker under contract until 2027 but now 32 years old, Liverpool are planning for the future.

Backup keeper Caoimhín Kelleher is expected to leave Anfield this summer in search of regular football, while Georgian international Giorgi Mamardashvili, currently on loan at Valencia, has already been secured as a potential long-term option.

Cardoso, a 19-year-old Luxembourg international, has emerged as a top target. Standing at 6ft 3in, he is valued at around €5m (£4m) and has impressed Reds’ goalkeeping coach Fabian Otte, who previously worked with him at Monchengladbach, according to Sport Bild.

Several English clubs are also monitoring the youngster, but the German side are said to be open to selling if a suitable offer arrives.

Liverpool’s defensive record this season has been one of the best in the Premier League, with 13 clean sheets — the joint-highest in the division — and just 31 goals conceded.

Alisson’s consistent brilliance, alongside the leadership of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate’s solidity, and the midfield’s relentless pressing, has been key. Kelleher also performed admirably when called upon during Alisson’s injury absence.

Should Kelleher depart, Cardoso could step in as an understudy to Alisson, giving Liverpool a talented young option to develop into a future first-choice goalkeeper.
