Liverpool are set to face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the race to sign Lecce’s highly-rated defender Patrick Dorgu, according to Caught Offside.
The Reds are in the market for a long-term successor to Andy Robertson, who has entered his 30s and endured an inconsistent first half of the season.
While Konstantinos Tsimikas remains an option, he has struggled to consistently challenge Robertson for a regular first-team role.
Reports suggest Liverpool have been closely monitoring Dorgu’s progress and could move for him to strengthen their defensive options.
The 20-year-old is contracted to Lecce until 2029, leaving the Serie A side in a strong position to demand a hefty fee. A figure in the region of £42 million has been mentioned.
Liverpool are not alone in their pursuit, according to Caught Offside. Tottenham are also keen, as they seek to bolster their depth behind Destiny Udogie.
With Ben Davies expected to leave when his contract expires and Djed Spence only filling in out of position, Spurs see Dorgu as an ideal reinforcement.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are weighing their own options at left-back due to Luke Shaw’s recurring injuries and Tyrell Malacia’s struggles since returning from a long layoff.
United are reportedly open to moving Malacia on, which would further highlight their need for defensive cover.
With interest also coming from Chelsea, Manchester City, and several European giants including Juventus, AC Milan, and Bayer Leverkusen, Dorgu will have no shortage of suitors.
Still, the battle between Liverpool, Spurs, and United could be the fiercest as all three Premier League clubs look to secure one of Europe’s most promising young defenders.
