Liverpool are reportedly prepared to activate Sevilla defender Loïc Badé’s release clause as they look to strengthen their backline this summer, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Reds enjoyed a superb start to the season under Arne Slot, sparking hopes of an unprecedented quadruple. However, their momentum has faltered since the turn of the year.
Despite recent setbacks, Liverpool remain firmly in control of the Premier League title race, sitting 11 points clear of Arsenal and on course to be crowned champions.
Fichajes reports that Slot’s side have been impressed by Badé’s consistent performances in La Liga and see the Frenchman as an ideal addition. They are said to be ready to meet his €60m release clause to secure his services.
Sevilla’s ongoing financial troubles mean they are likely to entertain offers for the 6ft 3in centre-half. Badé, has established himself as a defensive mainstay in Andalusia.
A strong, aerially dominant presence, he also played a key role in France’s run to a silver medal at last summer’s Olympics.
With Virgil van Dijk’s contract due to expire at the end of the season – and the Dutchman turning 34 this year – Liverpool are actively seeking a long-term successor. Even if Van Dijk extends his stay, adding quality and depth at the heart of defence remains a priority.
Badé’s talent and profile fit the bill, but questions linger over whether he is the calibre of signing capable of helping Liverpool maintain their lofty ambitions in the years ahead.
