Maeda cleared for Celtic’s Bayern showdown

Celtic’s preparations for Bayern Munich have been lifted by the news that Daizen Maeda will be free to feature at Celtic Park on Wednesday night after his two-match suspension was cut to just one.

The forward had initially been set to miss both fixtures following his dismissal against Young Boys, but the appeal has overturned the harsher ruling.

The red card, shown after a VAR review, was widely seen as harsh—there was little force in the challenge and it lacked any real malice. Sanity, at last, has prevailed.

Maeda sat out the League Cup tie with Raith Rovers, but being cleared for Europe’s grand stage is what truly matters.

For Brendan Rodgers, it removes what could have been a major tactical headache. The Japanese winger’s tireless pressing and threat in behind are central to Celtic’s game plan, especially when faced with a side as dominant as Bayern.

Celtic know the challenge awaiting them is immense. Bayern remain one of Europe’s most ruthless sides, capable of punishing even the smallest lapse.

But with Maeda back, the Hoops retain an outlet who embodies energy and belief. His ability to stretch defences and unsettle opponents may yet provide the spark Rodgers’ men need.

The timing could not be better. Celtic Park under the lights, Champions League anthem echoing, and one of the team’s most influential figures back in the line-up.

It may not guarantee a result, but it restores hope that the Scottish champions can make the night truly competitive.

Kick-off is set for 8pm Wednesday—and with Maeda available, Celtic’s chances feel just that bit brighter.
