Manchester United have reportedly joined Arsenal in the battle to sign in-form Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman this summer, according to Italian outlet Tuttojuve.
The 27-year-old first made his mark as a teenage talent at Charlton Athletic before joining Everton in 2017.
Subsequent loan spells at Fulham and Leicester City were underwhelming, but his career took off after moving to Atalanta in 2022.
Since then, Lookman has become a fan favourite in Bergamo, with highlights including a hat-trick in last season’s Europa League final.
His performances have now caught the eye of several elite clubs.
Lookman, recently crowned African Footballer of the Year, still has two years left on his deal, and Atalanta are reportedly demanding around €60m (£51m) to let him go.
A Premier League return appears most likely due to the asking price, and Manchester United are desperate for attacking reinforcements. The Red Devils have managed just 39 league goals this season — the second-lowest outside the relegation zone.
Rasmus Højlund, Josiah Zirkzee, and Alejandro Garnacho have shown flashes of potential but have lacked consistent finishing.
Lookman’s record in Italy is impressive, delivering at least 20 goal contributions in each of his three seasons with Atalanta, including 25 this campaign alone.
However, Arsenal remain a serious threat in the race, with Mikel Arteta also keen to strengthen his frontline ahead of next season.
The question is whether United are prepared to meet Atalanta’s valuation — and if they can beat their Premier League rivals to his signature.
