Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Lille forward Jonathan David as a potential reinforcement in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
The Red Devils have struggled in front of goal this season, managing just 27 goals in 22 Premier League matches. With the current strike force underperforming, manager Ruben Amorim is pushing for a proven finisher to lead the line.
David is one of four forwards believed to be on United’s shortlist. The Canadian international is out of contract this summer, leaving Lille in a vulnerable position.
While the 25-year-old carries a market value of around £38 million, according to Transfermarkt, he could be available for a reduced fee this winter to avoid losing him for free at the end of the campaign.
David has been in excellent form, scoring 18 goals and registering 7 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this season. He has also impressed in the Champions League, netting five times—including a strike in Lille’s recent 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.
His versatility, capable of playing as a central striker or in an advanced midfield role, makes him an attractive option for Amorim.
However, Manchester United face competition. Both Chelsea and Arsenal are also monitoring David’s situation as they seek attacking reinforcements.
With multiple suitors and United’s own struggles in the league, securing his signature could prove challenging.
