Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to beat Arsenal in the pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, according to talkSPORT.
United’s struggles in front of goal have been well documented this season, with just 37 goals scored in 31 Premier League games.
Reports suggest that Ruben Amorim’s side are targeting a prolific striker this summer, alongside creative No.10s to suit the Portuguese coach’s favoured 3-4-2-1 system.
The winter departures of Marcus Rashford and Antony have further reduced United’s attacking depth, leaving Alejandro Garnacho to fill the gap.
However, the youngster’s inconsistency in front of goal – coupled with links to a potential exit – has only heightened the need for reinforcements.
TalkSPORT reports that United have formally expressed interest in Cunha and could soon make a concrete move to prise him away from Molineux. Arsenal and Nottingham Forest are also monitoring the Brazilian.
While Cunha is thought to prefer a move to a bigger club, United’s potential offer of Champions League football could prove persuasive.
His agent is expected in England shortly for face-to-face discussions, and initial contact with Old Trafford officials has already been made. Transfer insider Ben Jacobs has even suggested Cunha would consider joining United without the lure of European football.
The 25-year-old recently signed a contract extension with Wolves, keeping him tied to the club for another four years.
If United can secure both the player and the manager, the Brazilian could be a key piece in revitalising the Red Devils’ faltering attack.
