Manchester United have opened initial talks over a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen forward Patrik Schick, according to German journalist Patrick Berger.

With a major squad reshuffle expected at Old Trafford, United are prioritising reinforcements in attack after a disappointing return of just 38 Premier League goals this season — the third-lowest among non-relegated sides.

Berger reports that the Red Devils are closely monitoring Schick’s situation at the BayArena and view the Czech Republic international as an “interesting” option to strengthen their No. 9 role. While the club is also targeting younger forwards, Schick’s experience and qualities keep him firmly in consideration.

The 29-year-old, who has two years remaining on his contract, is valued at around €30m (£25m) by the Bundesliga champions.

Crucially for United, Schick is keen on a Premier League move and has dismissed interest from the Middle East, potentially giving the club an edge in negotiations.

United’s struggles in front of goal have been evident, with summer signing Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund combining for only 15 goals in all competitions.

Schick’s proven scoring record, aerial prowess, physicality, and pace could make him an ideal fit for Ruben Amorim’s high-intensity style.

The Red Devils will be aiming to return to winning form when they face Lyon at Old Trafford on Thursday in the Europa League quarter-final second leg.
