Man Utd pursue Hjulmand as midfield reset looms

Time to rebuild.

Manchester United, faced with a midfield on the brink of collapse, have turned their attention to Sporting Lisbon’s Morten Hjulmand as a potential anchor for the next era.

Christian Eriksen’s departure is sealed. Casemiro is now a shadow—reduced to a squad role and nearing the exit. Even golden boy Kobbie Mainoo is stalling on a new deal, unsettling those at Carrington.

This is no minor reshuffle. It’s surgery.

Enter Hjulmand.

United rate the Danish midfielder highly and are reportedly confident they can sign him for £42–50 million—well below the £67 million release clause etched in his Sporting contract.

At 25, Hjulmand offers more than just numbers. He offers structure.

Last season in the Primeira Liga, he completed 91% of his passes, won 72% of his tackles, and logged 5.6 recoveries per game. He’s not flashy. He’s functional. He builds while others breathe.

Rúben Amorim trusted him. Like Fernandes before him, Hjulmand was his spine.

Now United want him too.

Why? Because the No. 6 role is bare. Because Bruno Fernandes must return to the No. 10. Because if you want to contend again, you don’t build from flair—you build from foundation.

Tottenham, Bayern, and others are watching. But United have urgency. And a void.

Should they succeed in bringing the Dane to Old Trafford at a cut-price fee, it would mark not just a signing—but a statement.
