Manchester United have struck a breakthrough in their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo, agreeing terms with Brentford after weeks of negotiation.

The 25-year-old forward enjoyed a career-best season in 2024/25, netting 20 times and providing seven assists in 38 league games as the Bees secured a top-half finish.

His explosive displays caught the attention of Tottenham, Newcastle, and Arsenal, but United convinced him to commit to Old Trafford early last month.

The deal has been a drawn-out saga. United saw two offers—peaking at £62.5 million—turned away before returning with an improved third proposal.

That bid, worth £65 million upfront and a further £6 million in performance-related add-ons, has finally met Brentford’s approval. Payment will be structured across four instalments.

Transfer insider David Ornstein broke the story, later echoed by Fabrizio Romano with his signature “Here we go” announcement. Mbeumo is expected to complete his medical over the weekend and will sign a five-year contract with an option for an additional season.

His arrival follows the £62.5 million capture of Matheus Cunha, pushing United’s summer expenditure to £133.5 million. While Mbeumo will miss Saturday’s pre-season opener against Leeds United in Sweden, he is set to join the squad for their upcoming USA tour.

Ruben Amorim’s recruitment drive is far from over.

Amorim is also eyeing a new goalkeeper to challenge Andre Onana, whose form has fluctuated since arriving last summer.

For now, Mbeumo’s pace, versatility, and eye for goal look set to inject new life into United’s attacking options.
