Manchester United are weighing a move for Fiorentina’s rising defensive star Pietro Comuzzo as Ruben Amorim seeks to fortify his backline.

Last season’s frailties at the back, combined with the exits of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans, have left the Red Devils searching for fresh options.

Comuzzo, just 20, has emerged as one of Serie A’s most promising centre-backs after a breakthrough year that caught the eye of several Premier League sides. Nottingham Forest and Sunderland are also tracking him, though no formal offers have been lodged.

Comuzzo was a key figure for La Viola, making 33 Serie A appearances as they secured a sixth-place finish. His defensive stats underline his quality—winning 60% of his duels, averaging over three clearances and two recoveries per game, and maintaining an 86% pass completion rate.

United have already committed more than £130 million on attacking reinforcements this summer.

While the club may prioritise player sales in the short term, Comuzzo’s availability for £20–25 million could tempt them into acting swiftly—especially with staggered payment options on the table as reported by TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Italian could slot in as a right-sided centre-back, either centrally or on the flank of a back three, providing depth alongside Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, and Matthijs de Ligt.

Amorim knows injuries disrupted United’s defensive stability last term, and adding another versatile option would offer valuable insurance.

Forest, fresh from securing European football, pose a genuine threat in the race, particularly given their positive dealings with Fiorentina last summer.

If United are serious, hesitation could prove costly.
