Manchester United have made Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen a priority transfer target, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

After parting ways with long-time No.1 David de Gea last year, United signed André Onana from Inter Milan in the hopes of adding a composed, ball-playing presence between the sticks. However, the Cameroonian has endured a turbulent spell at Old Trafford, marked by high-profile errors last season and further mistakes this term.

Manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly unconvinced by Onana, and with Altay Bayindir’s future also uncertain, United are seeking a new first-choice goalkeeper. Verbruggen, who joined Brighton from Anderlecht last year, has emerged as their top target.

The 22-year-old Dutchman, now the Seagulls’ first-choice under Fabian Hürzeler, has impressed with his composure, aerial strength, sweeper-keeper abilities, and sharp reflexes. Standing at 6ft 3in, he fits the modern profile United want in goal.

While reports suggest £30m could secure his signature, Brighton are expected to demand more, given that Verbruggen is tied to the club for another three-and-a-half years.

Whether United make a move in January or wait until the summer remains to be seen. Amorim has already admitted funds are tight and player sales will be necessary before new arrivals.

With the team currently languishing in 14th place, just seven points above the relegation zone, a squad rebuild — including a new goalkeeper — could become a pressing priority.

United’s next challenge sees them take on Liverpool in the Premier League before an FA Cup clash with Arsenal, matches that could further shape their transfer urgency.
