Man Utd target Bryan Mbeumo as backup plan to Matheus Cunha

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo as an alternative should their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha fall through this summer, according to GIVEMESPORT.

Since arriving from French Ligue 2 side Troyes in 2019, Mbeumo has been a standout performer for the Bees. This season has been his most productive yet, with 22 goal contributions, cementing his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking threats.

GIVEMESPORT claims United will weigh up a swoop for the 25-year-old if they cannot secure Cunha. While Brentford are expected to demand a significant fee, as Mbeumo earns £45k per week and has just one year remaining at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Although Cunha remains the club’s primary target, concerns over his disciplinary record have pushed United to explore backup options.

With the need to qualify for the Champions League and raise funds through player sales to activate Cunha’s release clause, Mbeumo has emerged as a strong candidate.

Journalist Dan Bardell has hailed Mbeumo as “one of the best players in the Premier League,” and United are also keeping tabs on Sporting CP’s Francisco Trincao and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as potential attacking reinforcements.

Known for his consistency, creativity, technical skill, relentless work rate, and clinical finishing, Mbeumo could follow in the footsteps of players like Sadio Mane, Leandro Trossard, and Ollie Watkins — all of whom thrived after making the step up to bigger clubs.

If United seal the deal, the Brentford star may well be ready to light up Old Trafford next season.
