Manchester United’s bold move: Osimhen release clause could be triggered this summer

United crumbled in front of goal again, this time versus Tottenham.

It marked their third Premier League defeat in five games—again exposing the limitations of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund. A drastic change is looming.

Victor Osimhen, once too expensive, is back in focus. His Napoli release clause stands at roughly £65 million (€75 million), and United reportedly stand ready to activate it this summer, as per 90mins reports.

The Nigerian forward is thriving on loan at Galatasaray, with 17 goals and five assists this campaign.

That production makes him an attractive—and relatively cost-effective—option compared to primary targets like Viktor Gyokeres.

But there’s a catch: Osimhen craves Champions League football. He previously turned down Chelsea last year—and United’s current position, in mid‑table, falls short of his sporting ambitions.

Reports hint United may have begun salary talks, and some insiders claim an agreement in principle is in place between club and player.

Still, the release clause is ticking.

According to calendar terms, it’s active until mid‑July; beyond that, Napoli may ditch it altogether—forcing buyers into less favorable negotiations.

United fans steel themselves for a decision: trigger the clause and pay Osimhen’s wage demands (reportedly over £300k per week), or look elsewhere.

If they can’t secure Europe’s elite striker, that decision will define their summer drive.

This is more than just recruitment. It’s a statement.

United may not be at the summit now—but they’re betting Osimhen could take them there.
