United plot £34 m bid for Lunin amid Onana woes

Andre Onana’s spell in goal has been rocky since joining Manchester United. Questions swirl—about distribution, reflexes, confidence. With summer looming and a squad rebuild brewing at Old Trafford, United are considering a bold move.

They’ve set their sights on Andriy Lunin.

The Ukrainian, who renewed at Real Madrid until 2030, has seen limited game time behind Thibaut Courtois—but stepped up gloriously when called upon during Courtois’s ACL absence in 2023–24, helping Madrid lift the Champions League and featuring in key Copa victories.

Reports via TEAMtalk suggest United are ready to make an opening offer of £34 million for Lunin. Initial talks have already occurred between United and his agent, Jorge Mendes.

But Real Madrid value him much higher—closer to €20‑25 million—given his five-year contract and recent stellar form when called into action. Lunin remains comfortable in Madrid and has not pushed for a move.

Nonetheless, Old Trafford’s urgency is unmistakable. Onana’s errors have piled up. United crave stability. A modern keeper adept at distribution and shot-stopping—someone who can anchor the backline and resurrect a rebuilding defence.

Lunin might be tempted by guaranteed first-team football. At United, European ambition returns next season too—perhaps a more compelling prospect than remaining Courtois’s understudy.

It’s not just about replacing Onana. This is about re-establishing United’s identity.

Lunin isn’t the perfect fix—he’s not De Gea—but he offers polish, potential, and pressure-relief. United may need to lift the bid beyond £34 m to close the gap.

Time is limited—and sometimes the boldest decisions rewrite the future.
