United plot formal £25m opening bid for Geovany Quenda

Manchester United, struggling in the Premier League, sit 14th with just 33 points. The season is done—what comes next matters more.

According to Sky Sport CH, United are preparing a formal opening offer of £25 million to sign 17‑year‑old Sporting Lisbon wunderkind Geovany Quenda at season’s end

United have already reached out to the youngster’s camp. A reunion with Rúben Amorim—Quenda’s former coach at Sporting—is central to the plan.

The teenager flourished as a right wing-back before moving up the left flank as winger after Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford in November 2024.

It’s ambition meeting urgency.

Patrick Dorgu’s January arrival strengthened United’s wing-back options, but Amorim still craves Quenda’s explosive versatility.

He’s dynamic, intelligent, and already a staple of Sporting’s first team—with goal contributions from both sides of the pitch this season.

But Sporting aren’t desperate. Reports suggest they’ll demand closer to £40 m or more, as per the report, thanks to a release clause near €100 million.

United won’t be alone. Liverpool and PSG are also credited with interest, raising the stakes. United must act quickly to avoid a bidding war that could blow the fee beyond their reach as reported by Football Talk | Premier League News.

For Quenda, there’s a tug-of-war of purpose. Chelsea recently won the race—agreeing a future transfer deal around the €45–50 m mark and planning to bring him in by summer 2026. But United still linger as a credible option.

This is more than a signing. It’s a statement: rebuilding around young identity, and a vision authored by a manager who trusts the player.
