Time moves quickly in football, and sometimes opportunity doesn’t knock—it’s handed to you.

Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Gonçalo Ramos according to a Daily Mail report, a forward once tipped as Benfica’s next great export.

At 23, he left Lisbon for Paris, first on loan, then permanently last summer. Under Luis Enrique, Ramos found himself orbiting the starting XI rather than anchoring it, starting just 18 games in his debut season across Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Last term, even fewer.

Yet, when called, he delivered—18 goals, six assists.

PSG, strong in their position with his contract running until 2028, have placed a £42 million price tag on his head as per Gazzetta reports. It’s a figure that reflects their bargaining power more than his current role.

United’s need is undeniable. Rasmus Højlund’s four-goal Premier League return left them exposed. Liam Delap turned them down for Chelsea. Viktor Gyökeres remains tangled in competition. The club’s search has been urgent, bordering on desperate.

Ramos is not without flaws—consistency, perhaps confidence—but his movement, finishing, and intelligence offer a different dimension.

The question is whether United will see this as the gamble that redefines a season or a risk too costly for a player who’s been surplus to requirements in Paris.

In the right hands, Ramos could rediscover the ferocity that made Europe take notice. In the wrong setting, he could fade further into the background. United must decide quickly; the clock, as always, is already ticking.
