Reports suggest Liverpool may target Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano in the next transfer window, with growing interest in the French defender as his contract at the Allianz Arena runs into its final stretch.
The Reds have already enjoyed a blockbuster summer, smashing records to bring in Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, dramatically bolstering their frontline. Yet their recruitment drive might not stop there, as Upamecano has emerged as a serious option for strengthening Jurgen Klopp’s back line.
According to BILD (via SportWitness), Bayern are increasingly uneasy about the uncertainty surrounding the 26-year-old’s future. His deal is set to expire next summer, and with no agreement currently in place for an extension, the Bundesliga giants face the real possibility of losing a key figure.
Real Madrid are also circling, reportedly weighing up whether to pursue Upamecano or Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté—leaving Liverpool in position to either retain their current defensive rock or lure his compatriot to Anfield.
Upamecano is no stranger to top-level competition. Rising through the Red Bull system, he made his name at RB Salzburg before excelling at RB Leipzig, where he played over 150 games and became one of the Bundesliga’s standout defenders.
His form earned him a move to Bayern Munich, where he has since featured in more than 150 matches, won three league titles, and secured a place in last season’s Team of the Year while earning £208,000 per week.
Liverpool are also said to be keeping tabs on Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi after a £35 million deadline-day move collapsed. Should they succeed in adding Upamecano or Guehi—alongside Konaté and Ballon d’Or nominee Virgil van Dijk—the Reds could assemble one of the most formidable defensive partnerships in world football.
